Here we go again... |
Alright, I'm getting back to work on this project again. I figured out what went wrong the last thousand times I tried to work on this - I never planned anything. I just coded as I went. This time, I'm starting by planning everything before I write a single line of code.
With that said, several new design decisions have been made for this time. The biggest decision is that all of the graphics will be isometric, instead of tiled as I originally planned.
By the way - all of you spammers who were targeting my forum, you should realize that NOBODY reads this site, and your bandwidth is better spent elsewhere. So knock it off.
I wish those spambots could read news posts. |

Well, we're a little more well-known now... |
Arnacaw's popularity seems to have "spiked" the last few days... we actually served an *amazing* 400 KB of bandwidth yesterday, a new record for us. Of course, that's absolutely nothing. Still, it's a big step up, especially for a project with no file releases.
Anyway, I was bored today, taking a break from fixing bugs in some new code I wrote for the client, and looking around on Google. I searched for arnacaw, and, what do you know, we're not considered to be a spelling error by Google anymore. Yay! Of course, there's still the problem of only the downloads page and the forum index showing up, and that thing where it says "Showing results 1-10 of about 4" (and yes, there are 10), but we're no longer a spelling error! Of course, if you misspell arnacaw, it doesn't come up as a "did you mean" thing yet, but oh well...
*sigh* time for me to go back to work on the client... |

Quick Progress Update |
Just posting to let everyone know I'm still here... I know I haven't made any updates to the site or the Subversion repository lately, I know, but I'm beginning work on the game again.
During the last few months, I've been practicing my programming skills on several smaller game projects of my own. I've learned quite a few things, and come up with quite a few ideas on how to make Arnacaw work better, and I plan to use what I learned while I write all of the code.
I'm going to post a more detailed progress update in the forums, so if you're curious, just take a look. |

Progress Update 11/12/06 |
|
I posted a somewhat detailed progress update in the forums today if you'd like to take a look. I'm looking for feedback about whether to use a 2D tiled engine or a 2D isometric engine for the graphics. Please vote in the poll and/or post on the forums if you have any feedback regarding this topic. Thanks! |

New Linux Development Box |
|
I just finished setting up a new Linux development computer, so I can start testing the code on Linux as I write it. Still getting closer and closer to 0.01... :) |

Code Status |
|
Right now, I'm completely overhauling the existing server code(which isn't much), so no contributions to the server code will be accepted. However, the new object-oriented server code will make programming and extending the server much easier... maybe v0.01 can be expected soon? Meh, probably not... |
